Still retaining the “adventure” styling of the Cross Cub, the Cross Cub 110 goes on sale July 22, with only 2,000 units available for the Japanese domestic market. Coming in a unique Puco Blue paint scheme, the Cross Cub 110 uses black as a contrast, including the wheel rims, seat, absorber springs, handlebars and rear rack. Meanwhile, the engine and fork legs are painted silver, with a chrome exhaust guard styled like the units on scramblers in the 1970s. A crash guard painted in the body colour adorns the separate headlight with a close clearance front fender, also in the same colour. Available only as a single-seater, the Cross Cub 110 comes with no other accessories. Mechanically the same as the standard model Cross Cub, the Cross Cub 110 is powered by a 109 cc, single-cylinder, OHC engine fed by fuel injection. Power is claimed to be ps at 7,500 rpm with Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm and power gets to the ground via a four-speed rotary gearbox. With 17-inch wheels, the Cross Cub 110 is fitted with tyres that come with a “block” pattern, reminiscent of those fitted to adventure-touring rigs. Suspension is done with twin shock absorbers at the back and telescopic forks in front with fuel carried in a tank, while all up weight is 108 kg. Coming with diverse and extensive experience in heavy engineering, Mohan enjoys making anything with wheels go fast, especially motorcycles. His weapon of choice is the Desmoquattro engine, and he has a penchant for anything with a dash of Italian design. Strangely enough, he insists he's a slow rider.

We enjoyed every minute of seat time with Honda’s off-roading minimoto in November, 2020, but Japan has been ahead of the curve for some time. Back in 2017, Team Red revealed the Cross Cub 110 at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show and launched in 2018. Now, the brand is making another splash by releasing a limited-edition Puko Blue CC 110. Based on the Super Cub 110, the trail bike borrows the platform’s step-through frame but sheds the leg fairings and adds a frame-mounted LED headlight. Honda also hangs an air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 109cc from that iconic frame, and the mini mill churns out horsepower and lb-ft of torque. The four-stroke mates to a four-speed gearbox and the CC 110 sips from a gas tank. Retailing for ¥341,000 $3,118 USD, the Cross Cub features Camouflage Green, Pearl Shining Yellow, and Classical White colorways. The Graphite Black version commands a ¥352,000 $3,218 USD price tag, however. With a seat height and 234-pound wet weight, the CC 110 suits riders of all sizes and skill levels. The tail rack, dual-sport tires, and slotted exhaust shield align with the vintage off-roader aesthetic, even if riders never really take it to the dirt. Since its 2018 introduction, the Cross Cub hasn’t seen many updates, but Honda equipped the minimoto with a new tail lamp in 2020 to comply with Japan’s new road regulations. The new Puko Blue color will only grace 2,000 CC 110 units. Despite the exclusivity, Honda will retain the ¥341,000 $3,118 USD MSRP found on the base model. CUSTOM INSPIRATION This one-off custom build comes from the brains of a moto-journalist who is also a dedicated fisherman and, apparently erstwhile adventurer. He chose the Japanese-market-only Cross Cub, a spinoff of the Super Cub that is slightly more ruggedized less bodywork, knobbier tires. This one, though, gets extra off-road treatment in the repositioning of its exhaust from running under the bike to a scrambler style high pipe. This leaves the underside free of encumbrances so that the builder was able to fit a good bash plate, mounted on a crash bar that doubles as a frame member. This bike has a front rack with headlight protection, as well as rear and mid luggage racks. Remember it’s a step-through so that middle bit of frame can also be used for extra luggage. While some of this is totally custom, many parts of it are available for purchase on the Japanese market, making this a do-it-yourselfer’s dream. You can just bolt parts onto your own Cross Cub, if you live in Japan, and take this thing fishing and camping too! It’s light enough that it’s probably a real hoot on dirt roads. This cross-cub has a 110cc motor, but if you live in the US and you are dedicated, you can buy yourself a 2019, 125cc Super Cub and use this build as inspiration for your own. This machine was on display at the Japan Fishing show in January, where it drew attention for being simultaneously useful and adorable. It will be on display again at the Tokyo Motor Show on March 22-24, 2019. “Outdoor enjoyment specification is completed!” Hopefully the Super Cub will sell well enough here in the states to draw a following and inspire customization projects like this one. Now it’s putting it on sale in Japan along with a smaller 50cc version. Both bikes are full revamps on the previous Japanese-market Cross Cub. Like their predecessors they’re based on the Super Cub scooter – itself revamped for 2018 – but with a rugged, off-road-inspired edge. It’s a strange combination, but the Cross Cub actually manages to build upon the simple, utilitarian appeal of the Super Cub. It ditches its parent bike’s trademark leg fairings, valanced front mudguard and bar-mounted headlight in favour of a stripped-down look. The new, low-mounted LED headlight is protected with a simple steel cage, the front mudguard is as basic as it could be and, on the 110cc version, the 17-inch wheels are fitted with semi-knobbly 50cc version looks near-identical, but its rugged looks are aimed at the rough-and-tumble of city life rather than having any off-road aspirations. The wheels are smaller 14-inchers, clad in road-only rubber, makes for lower gearing and nimbler low-speed turning. The perfect pizza-delivery bike?As with the new Super Cub 110 and 50, there’s no sign of these versions being sold in Europe, but Honda is understood to be bringing back the Cub to these shores. It showed a Euro4-legal Super Cub 125 as a concept’ last year, along with its 125cc Monkey bike concept, and both are believed to have a strong chance of production. Should the Super Cub 125, with its disc brakes and cleaner, more powerful engine go on sale over here, it wouldn’t be a huge leap for Honda to strip it back to create a Cross Cub variant as well.
